Dr. Ivan Van Sertima was a Professor, author, linguist, and an anthropologist. Van Sertima has made extensive contributions in each of the fields he has worked and studied in. Originally from Georgetown, Guyana he was born in 1935. Ivan studied at the School of Oriental and African Studies at London University. He began his teaching career in 1972 in the Africana Studies at Rutgers. One of his most celebrated works was “They Came Before Columbus: The African Presence in America” first published in 1976 and is now in its 29th printing.
