Celia Cruz recorded 23 gold albums, she was also known as one the most popular salsa performers of all time. Born in Havana, Cuba on October 21, 1925, Celia Cruz rose to fame as a singer in Cuba during the 1950s. She sang with the Afro Cuban group La Sonora Matancera. Cruz’s singing career started in the 1940s after she won a singing contest , which began her career in music. Celia died on July 16, 2003 at the age of 77.
